A Dawn in the West

Elias “Lucky” Baldwin was one of California’s most colorful figures. The founder and first mayor of Arcadia, Ca. and the creator of the Santa Anita Race track, Lucky helped forge the future of California. I created him as a 9 foot tall figure who looks west towards the future site of his home (the current location of the L.A. Arboretum). Lucky squints in the sunlight as he steps from the past to the future of the west.
